New Designs

Recently we’ve been working on some major design upgrades to Octopart with the goal of making our user interface more attractive and more intuitive.

Often users email us asking if they can upload a BOM to our site. Now there’s an “Upload BOM” button placed prominently below the search bar:

Previously, our search interface was an AngularJS client-side app. Now, our search results are returned by a server-side app that’s much faster:

The BOM Tool UI has also been given a major design upgrade. Now when you upload a BOM you can quickly see which distributors have coverage and which parts are difficult to get. We’re using simple Green/Yellow/Red color coding to indicate supply chain availability. If you see red, there’s a problem:

Finally, we’re also giving all of our content pages a major design upgrade. When we designed our new About page we wanted to make our mission clear to all of our users:
