This month marks Octopart's 10 year anniversary since launch. A decade ago the three of us (Andres, Harish and Sam) huddled in Andres' grad student apartment in Berkeley as this TechCrunch article went live and the traffic started coming in.
Things were different then. Paper catalogs ruled and proprietary databases locked away component data. Early e-commerce platforms obscured pricing and availability information. Octopart has succeeded in opening up this electronic component data and bringing the component industry into a future that we believe benefits everyone.
Octopart's next ten years are bright - by focusing on part search and discovery Octopart will give a new generation of electronics hackers, hobbyists, and professionals the right interface for component selection.
Octopart will always be close to our hearts and we have no doubt that the Octopart’s future is brighter than ever.
