Analysis: Who's Using The API?

We've been talking a lot about the Octopart API recently and are thrilled to see more people using it to build apps for sourcing and manufacturing. Below is a high-level breakdown of the kinds of companies and developers that have integrated Octopart to open up access to part data:

While we do see OEMs, contract manufacturers and design houses using the API to develop apps in-house, the majority of API users are software developers building apps to sell to this segment. As pricing and availability information is our strong suit, many apps are related to BOM management throughout the supply chain. As we continue to add data beyond pricing and availability, we expect to see growth in apps for design, prototyping and compliance checking.
