Lifecycle Status Now on Octopart

Lifecycle Status is now available for over 650,000 parts on Octopart.

We know the current production status of a part is a crucial piece of data to consider when selecting a component for a design, that’s why we’ve been working hard over the past year to surface this data for our users.

Because Octopart is dedicated to delivering accurate and reliable part data, we will only display Lifecycle Status for parts where we can be confident the status is coming from a trusted, authoritative source. For instance, manufacturer lifecycle data is the first choice whenever available and always supersedes lifecycle data from 2nd party sources. It should be noted this data is displayed as it is received without any normalization applied. This way, you’ll know when a part from Texas Instruments has the status “ACTIVE”, you can trust we are showing you TI’s official status. Much like the variations in ways to display technical specs, Lifecycle Status terminology can be similarly convoluted. One manufacturer may use the term “In Production” while others may simply use “Production”. In the future Octopart will offer normalized states for Lifecycle Status alongside the original status.

Additionally, wherever Lifecycle Status is displayed you’ll find the timestamp of when the data was updated on Octopart. On Specs View, this information is available via tooltip while hovering your cursor over a part’s status.

Whenever Octopart is unable to obtain this data directly from the manufacturer, we’ll display the status from the next most reliable source. If we are unable to find Lifecycle Status from a source that meets criteria for authority and trustworthiness we leave that field blank.

Where can you find Lifecycle Status on Octopart?

Currently, Lifecycle Status can be found on Specs View search results, part pages, and via the API. You can also filter your search results by Lifecycle Status on both Prices View and Specs View.
