How to Revert to a Previous Component Revision

Created: August 1, 2025
Updated: August 13, 2025

Summary:

This video demonstrates how to roll back a previous version of a component in case of file errors or premature component modifications.  The video demonstrates the process to edit a revision on a capacitor.

The first step is to log in to the Explorer Panel on the workspace.  By navigating to the components folder and choosing a capacitor, the video reverts to the component’s eighth revision and makes this the most current component version.  This revision is edited, released, and saved to the server with a release note. This process enables users to reopen a previous version of a component within a project in case of component errors.

In this video, I'll show you how to roll back a previous revision of a component. Sometimes there may be modifications to a component that were not approved or verified, and then released into Altium 365, so this will require the component to be reverted back to a previous revision. The first thing you'll do is log in to your company workspace.

00:00:26:09 - 00:00:32:07
Then you can go to the explorers panel.

00:00:32:08 - 00:01:02:09
Here I can navigate to the components folder and I'll choose the capacitors I want to go and make sure in the settings that I have show hidden revisions enabled. So I'll do that. And now I'll just expand this a little in here I can go and search for the component. Here you can see this has nine revisions. I will select the eighth revision here.

00:01:02:10 - 00:01:36:03
And that is the one that I want to edit. So it can become my latest version. So I'll edit it. It will open the single component editor with all the information. I'm going to copy the name and I'll use that to go and find the component. Once I release it. At this point, because I want to keep all my parametric data the same, I'll just use file save to server, or you can use the icon at the top the same exact function.

00:01:36:05 - 00:01:52:13
It will validate and then I can release. I'm going to add a release note.

00:01:52:14 - 00:02:14:02
And once I click okay it will now save it to the server as a new revision. And it will be the latest revision of the component.

00:02:14:03 - 00:02:24:04
And here you can see now that 10th revision is that new latest version.

00:02:24:05 - 00:02:27:09
Thank you for watching.
