Component History

Created: July 24, 2025

Summary:

This video demonstrates how to navigate to the history of a component, what changes were made, by whom, and on what date.  The process begins by opening the workspace, and then the components panel and the component type.  Within the operations of the component type, the lifecycle state, revisions, author, and notes for that revision are available to review, delete, or change to a prototype. Users are also able to view the symbol, footprints, and 2D and 3D model views for a component.

Similar data is also available for the component history in the Explorer Panel of a component.  This information is very helpful for designers and component librarians to update, track, and make changes to a component within their component libraries.  This enables engineers to ensure that components within their projects stay up to date.

00:00:00:00 - 00:00:37:04
In this video, I'll show you how to navigate to the full history of a component. Sometimes it is necessary to go back and know the history of what changes were made, by whom, and the date or timestamp it occurred. The first step you will take is you connect to the workspace. Once that's done, you can open the components panel and go ahead and select the folder that has the component type.

00:00:37:04 - 00:00:50:12
You want to see the history for. You can right click on the component, select operations and choose Full Item History.

00:00:50:13 - 00:00:56:09
This will show you the revisions.

00:00:56:10 - 00:01:08:04
The lifecycle state the date, the person that made the changes, and any notes that they may have compiled.

00:01:08:06 - 00:01:29:08
You can see all the lists of revisions of the components that were created. Also, if you right click, you can review the revision properties.

00:01:29:09 - 00:01:40:08
In addition you have other options. You can delete the revision. You can promote it to prototype.

00:01:40:09 - 00:01:44:09
You can make it obsolete.

00:01:44:10 - 00:02:02:00
Or you can plan for a new custom revision. I'll show you in this video how you can promote a component lifecycle. Here are all the items that will be updated.

00:02:02:01 - 00:02:15:07
I'll just click okay and notice immediately the state of the lifecycle changed to prototype.

00:02:15:09 - 00:02:46:00
Down below you'll notice the components and the symbol and multiple footprints that are attached to this component. You'll notice that it's in the workspace and also parametric data that is associated with it. In addition, you have the 3D model view and clicking the 2D button will show you the 2D view as well, along with the symbol.

00:02:46:01 - 00:03:02:08
This data is available for any given component that you want to see the history for. You can also go to the explorer panel.

00:03:02:09 - 00:03:18:02
And when the explorer panel is open, you can select the type of component you want to review the history for. And if you right click on any given components and select.

00:03:18:04 - 00:03:30:00
History, then you will see the details. Just as we did previously from the components panel.

00:03:30:01 - 00:03:40:00

All the revisions are listed as well.

00:03:48:04 - 00:03:52:07
