Create a Library from a Project to add to Altium 365

Summary:

This video demonstrates how to create a library from a project and add it to Altium 365.  To begin, open a project and navigate to make (an) integrated library within the design menu.  A library is automatically created.

Next, select the library using the plus library button in the file library importer.  Within the file, multiple lib file types are supported and categorized for import.  Validate the file, click the button and read through the warning messages to eliminate any errors that will prevent import of the project. Once the import is complete, the log is opened for details into the import.  Lastly, search for the component in the components panel in Altium 365.

In this video, I'll show you how you can create a library from a project and add those to Altium 365.

00:00:13:12 - 00:00:28:03
I have a project that's open and I can go to the design menu, make integrated library.

00:00:28:04 - 00:00:56:06
It will automatically start creating a library of components and footprints from the existing components on the schematic and PCB. Once this step is done, then I can use the File Library Importer to go ahead and select the library using the Plus Library Button.

00:00:56:07 - 00:01:02:08
Navigate to the file.

00:01:02:09 - 00:01:35:12
It's always going to be stored in the same directory as you have the project stored. Once I select it, you'll notice I can open, but the different types that are supported are schematic lib, pcb lib, int lib and db lib, and svn db lib. It will go ahead and start parsing through the data that's been created, and it will try and define the component type.

00:01:35:13 - 00:02:04:02
If any aren't defined, you can go ahead and select it from any of the fields in the dropdown menu for the component type. You'll also notice that it will put it into the specific folder and those are by default built in. So it'll categorize them and then in our properties panel we have import checks as well as parameter mapping.

00:02:04:04 - 00:02:07:06
These you can look at in.

00:02:07:07 - 00:02:43:05
Much more detail if you want. In my case I will validate, click the button and you'll see all the messages that appear. Most of these are warnings, and again those are coming from those checks that we just showed. You can go through and make sure there aren't any errors. Errors will prevent you from importing those components and models.

00:02:43:07 - 00:03:14:00
And once it's complete, you'll see the number that it has gone ahead and added. You can also open a log. So if you're wanting more detail about what the importer did, you can use the log for that. Now I'm just going to go into the components panel and I'll search for the component. The first one there that's highlighted on the right just so you can see that name.

00:03:14:01 - 00:03:25:09
Now it's available in the Altium 365, and I can go ahead and place that right into my schematic.
