Add Dictionaries for Component Templates

This video discusses how to add dictionaries for use in component templates. Once Altium Designer is restarted, the parameters for the workspace component templates are opened in the Explorer Panel, and a new “package” parameter is added. Finally, the template is saved to the server and a new component is created using the new parameter.

In this video, I'll show you how you can add dictionaries to be used in component templates. I am in the dictionaries from the settings at Altium 365. I click the new button. I'll type in the name of the parameter that I want to use to add values to. I type in package and I can add different packages such as oh four, oh two, oh six, oh three and so forth.

And once I'm finished, then I can go ahead and click enter and it will save those entries. I can also edit or remove any of those values as well. Once they've been typed, I can go into Altium Designer and I will need to log out of the Altium Designer and sign back in in order for them to be used.

Once I'm signed back in, I connect to the workspace and then I will go into my component templates from the explorer panel and choose edit. From the right click menu. Here you'll see the list of parameters. I'm going to add a new parameter. I will call it package. And you'll notice if I click in the type field.

You will be able to see that same name of the parameter I added, and it's packaged. And in the default value field I can select the dropdown menu and choose any of the ones I would like from the list. When I save this template back to the server, then that will come in as the default value.

And in order to show that it is there, I'll go into the file new component. And you will notice if I choose capacitor I.

It is in the list and I still can edit this value for the package just by selecting the value and choosing another item from the list.
